Ever popular, the 54th consecutive Pram Race hit the Ropley’s lanes on the 27th May which, combined with an excellent array of stalls and a well supported Dog Fun Dog Show drew a large and enthusiastic crowd. With 35 prams contesting the various Race classes and strong competition in the Fancy Dress section all the participants were full of enthusiasm. After much deliberation, the winner of the Fancy Dress was Hogwarts Express driven by Laura Bilham, Charlotte Penhaligan and Eleanor Pritchard.
As the Push Off time approached the prams lined up at the start and sharp on 11 am they were Off! Bringing up the rear were the real stars of recent Pram Races, the NEWTS, who won long and enthusiastic much deserved applause for their incredible and amazing take on Wallace and Grommit.
All competitors returned unscathed to the finish line, although the same could not be said for all the prams!
After the race visitors enjoyed delicious teas, courtesy of the Courtyard Shop, the ever popular Barbecue organised by the Cricket Club, Hospitality in the Pavilion and a wealth of stalls run by both local organisations and visitors and charities including a magnificent Bottle Tombola run by the Football Club. Other local groups participating were, Friends of St Peter’s, FROGs, Ropley Junior Cricket, Ropley Pre School and Toddler Group, Ropley Tennis Club, St Peter’s Church.
A welcome addition and popular addition this year was Face Painting by local resident Sarah Grant.
The morning closed with the brilliantly organised Fun Dog Show organised by Andrew and Wendy Morris.
