A Summer of Cricket

After a winter of discontent with winter nets and leagues curtailed by Coronavirus, summer finally arrived along with the inevitable few challenging rain showers!
Junior Cricket Our junior section has been as busy as ever and continues to go from strength to strength.
For youngsters aged 5-8 we ran All Stars cricket, which is an ECB initiative to help get young children involved in cricket. This was a great success and we were full (and even had a waiting list!) with 30 children signing up for the eight-week programme. The kids loved it, with the ECB sending each child their own kit bag complete with bat, ball and t shirt.
Our own junior section for those aged under 9 through to 16 ran throughout the summer and we were delighted to welcome 108 junior cricketers who signed up to the club. This is our highest number ever! We play our cricket in the Winchester Warrior League, with teams being entered into leagues and cup competitions. There were some great individual and team performances, including our under 13 open team reaching the semi-final of the Hampshire Cup before they were narrowly beaten. Our girls under 16 team have actually reached the final of the Hampshire County Cup (the final is due to be played on Saturday 11th September). Well done to all.
Senior Cricket We run two teams on a Saturday – our first XI play in Hampshire Cricket League Division 3 North, whilst the second XI play in Hampshire Cricket League Division 6 North East.
We have welcomed many new players into the senior squad this season and have also been bolstered by some of our older talented juniors playing up into senior cricket, gaining some valuable experience whilst also adding some youthful legs to the field!
Winter Training & League Once the summer is over our attention moves towards providing winter nets and also entering a team into an indoor 6 a side cricket league which runs from mid-October through to March, which is always great fun. Girls winter nets start from Monday 4th October, 6 to 8pm at Perins school.  Womens nets are on a Tuesday from 5th October from 6.30 to 8pm.
Junior open nets will run from the 8th January from 12-1pm at Perins Senior winter nets are still to be confirmed. Full details will be available from our website www.ropleycc.co.uk

Finally, our thanks go out to the many volunteers who have given up their time to help make the summer so enjoyable for all, whether this be junior coaching and managing teams in leagues, running the BBQ, helping with the admin, or preparing the cricket square during the season. Also, a big thank you to our sponsors for 2021 NFU Mutal, Alresford Beauty & History Heroes.

If you are interested in joining the club or keen to help, then please drop us a line at membership@ropleycc.co.uk We are especially keen to appoint a new treasurer. It is not an onerous role at all, if you are at all interested and can help us out, then please do drop us a line.
