Volunteering Opportunities

Do you have time to help out in Ropley? Have a look at the opportunities below.

If you would like to add a volunteering opportunity to this list, contact editors@myropley.org.uk

The Courtyard Shop

The shop is a friendly and welcoming place providing a useful service to the community and helping to keep a post office in the village. Without volunteers it would not survive.

The shop is a community owned non-profit making business run by the community for the community. While it does have some paid part-time staff, the shop is heavily dependent on volunteers who generously give up their free time to help out on the till, stacking shelves, checking and sorting deliveries, etc.

Full training is given, and volunteers can give as much (or as little) time as they like – many come in for a 2-hour shift once a week.

Contact: pop into the shop or phone the shop on 01962 773666

Ropley Community Care Group

The Ropley Community Care Group provides transport for Ropley residents (those who live in the BisMonRopTis area) to doctors, dentists and hospital appointments if they cannot drive themselves, and have no other means of transport, either by family or friends.

More volunteer drivers are always needed, and the more drivers we have, the fewer journeys each driver will be asked to make.

Passengers are asked to make a donation (suggested to be £5 to local doctors’ surgeries, £10 to Winchester, and £20 to Basingstoke and Southampton) which contributes towards the drivers’ fuel costs.

If you would like to know more, or think you might be able help, if only occasionally, please contact Humphrey Carr.

Improving Ropley Footpaths

Ropley Parish Council is keen to improve access to the wonderful footpath network in Ropley by replacing some stiles with kissing gates.

Become a footpath monitor

Would you like to be ‘footpath monitor’ for your regular favourite walk to let us know when there are problems (e.g. overgrown path or broken stile)?  If you are interested, contact Catherine for more information.

Join the Ropley Footpath Improvement Team

We have a team of about 10 local volunteers who we can call on to install the kissing gates. This is fairly heavy work, as it includes digging holes for new posts.  Cake is provided!

Ropley Pond Committee

The Ropley Pond Committee is a group of a few local residents who keep an eye on the pond at the top of Church Street. We rarely have official meetings but simply do whatever needs doing to keep it looking tidy (cutting back in the late winter and grass cutting during the summer are the main activities) and anyone who can give us a hand with these jobs would be very welcome.

Ropley Parish Hall

Ropley Parish Hall is a community facility managed by a Committee of volunteers who oversee the finances, maintenance and improvements to the Hall.  Without these volunteers the Hall would not be able to function and we need new members.

We have an immediate need for a Secretary and also a Bookings Administrator, but as some of our more long serving members take a step back, we will need others to support this important feature of the village to ensure its future.

Please contact me for any further information.
