Ropley people will be rifling through their cupboards for wartime memorabilia to share with others on VE Day this Thursday 8th May in the Parish Hall.

Do you have any wartime memorabilia in your family archives? So far we have offers of a petrol rationing book, a very non-woke article in RAF Ceylon’s Airflow magazine on how to chat up women, blueprint plans for the electrics in the Lancaster bomber, newspaper cuttings on household waste saving tips and a book entitled Struwwelhitler: a Nazi story book by Dr. Schrecklichkeit! Help us put on an exhibition to rival that being organised by Elizabeth Pargeter nee Archer at Lower Loxley?

We will exhibit your commemorative treasures in the Hall between 2.30-4.30pm on VE day this Thursday during the tea and talk alongside projects on WWII by Ropley schoolchildren and the talk by Cdr Bill Dawson RN (Retd) on the Commonwealth War Graves at 3.30pm.

Please have a rifle through your cupboards today and bring anything related to World War II along to the Parish Hall by 1.30pm on Thursday 8th May or email secretary.roply.fayre@gmail.com to arrange drop off. But most importantly come along to the Parish Hall between 2.30 and 4.30pm on Thursday and see what others have unearthed.

More details of what else is happening in Ropley on VE day in the BisMonRopTis magazine and at myropley.org.uk/ve80. And if you need a lift and help getting to Church, the Parish Hall or the Pavilion do phone 07879483708. We have cars waiting for you and friends waiting to hear your wartime stories.
