George Brown retired at last November’s meeting of Ropley Parish Council, having served it continuously for over 22 years. His first meeting as a councillor was in June 2002. Seven years later he was elected chairman of the council, a role he has committed himself to wholeheartedly for the past 15 years. George has given outstanding and unsung service and leadership over our local affairs, supporting Ropley and its residents and always in the very best interest of the parish.

Planning issues, our Neighbourhood Plan, village design statement, parish assets and activities, highways, footpaths and the recreation ground are the routine business of the council. George has ensured that all of these are scrupulously considered and solutions delivered with the minimum of fuss; and critically our parish precept is kept as low as possible, but sufficient to meet the essential services we all require and expect. George has also managed our local traffic control measures for several years.

Ropley owes George a huge debt of thanks for his long and outstanding service to our community. He has truly earned his retirement!
