guidance in researching family history, generally and locally.

If you have an area of local interest that you would like to research but do not know how to get started – or perhaps you would like a local or family history project to do over the winter. Hopefully this interesting day will help you get started.

Maybe you are just generally interested in local history and would like to browse the local displays – come along and have a look!
All Day – 10.30am – 3.30pm – Open to all – free browsing of the diplays and stand throughout the day with the two talks £5 each.
The Talks Tickets required £5 (per talk)
11.30am – 12.30pm – Starting out on local history using Hampshire archives: illustrated with examples from Ropley and elsewhere – A talk by Sarah Lewin from the Hampshire Records Office – £5
1.30pm – 2.30pm – Your Ancestors Uncovered – how to start your own family history research.
Fiona Ranger from the Hampshire Genealogy Society will give guidance on subjects that include certificates, censuses and parish registers, all very valuable resources for tracing your genealogy. The talk will end with how to record your research in a family tree. – £5
Tickets for the two talks are available to buy in a number of ways. Choose either or both talks that you would like to attend via
· Ropley Courtyard Stores, Church Street, Ropley (cash only)
· On the door on the day, though it would help very much if you would be kind enough to purchase your tickets beforehand to help us gauge numbers attending.
Displays and stands The Curtis Museum, Alresford historical and Literacy society, Mid Hants Railway and some local personal archives and village projects including from our own archive will be on display.
One such project on display is of past Ropley school photographs. We are looking to name the children and teachers in the school photos shown on our website.
We have some from the 1900’s to the 1950’s but we are also looking for others class photographs to be shared on the website. Did you or perhaps a family member attend the school and have a class photograph? Do you have any that you could bring along and share.? Perhaps we can put some names to faces.
Refreshments – Light refreshments will be available to buy, but if you staying for both talks please feel free to bring a packed lunch where there will be tables provided to eat, chat and relax in-between the two talks
